Our beautiful 7 inch round sourdough proofing baskets also known as a “banneton” are meticulously handcrafted from a small business in Mckinney, Texas. Each bowl is made from solid, custom-braided, 100% unbleached cotton rope, crafted in North Carolina. Made in small batches, our bannetons are hand-formed, tightly wound, and stitched to maintain structure and durability.
At first glance, it may seem small at 7 inches wide and 3 inches tall, but these dimensions were carefully selected through extensive trials. Larger bowls can cause gluten-free sourdough to spread too thin, weakening the bread’s structure. This custom design provides the perfect lift and form for a beautifully risen, well-shaped loaf.
* These exquisite bannetons are handcrafted with care by talented artisan and small business owner Carly Bellard @thekeepingjar and thekeepingjar@etsy.com
To Use: For best results, lightly dust the proofing basket with flour such as white rice and gently place your dough in the proofing basket. When you’re ready to bake, gently turn the banneton upside down onto parchment paper. Score the bread. For a more pronounced design, dust your dough with white rice flour before scoring.
Care Instructions: Gently hand wash with mild soap in warm water and line dry; washing between uses is not necessary.
